A file’s entries and their values; none when it cannot be read as its
shape says. Files sealed apart are read through, never whole (read_file).
A list or a settings file that is not text (saved by another tool in
another encoding, damaged) is none: never decoded lossily, which would
send its replaced characters and, written back, take its other lines out
everywhere (review of 5 October 2026, F25).
